2 September 1971 - The Anamosa Eureka

Funeral services for LaVern Engelbart, 49, Amber, will be Friday, Sept. 3 at 1:30 p.m. at Wayne Zion Lutheran church. Burial will be in Wayne cemetery. Goettsch Funeral home in Anamosa is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Engelbart was found dead in his car, in the garage at Amber about 4 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 31. County Medical Examiner Dr. John Bailey said he died of carbon monoxide poisoning, probably between 2 and 4 a.m. Tuesday.

9 September 1971 - The Anamosa Eureka

LaVern Bernard Engelbart, 49, a lifetime resident of the Amber community died at his home in Amber Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1971.

He was born near Anamosa July 25, 1922, the son of Herman and Grace Bodeker Engelbart. He was graduated from Anamosa high school with the class of 1941 and in December of 1942 entered the army, serving until February, 1946. He had been an employee of Collins radio for over 20 years.

He is survived by an adopted son, Eric LaVern; his father, Herman Engelbart; two brothers, Marvin and Galen, all of Anamosa; and two sisters, Mrs. Keith (Arlene) Kirkpatrick, Mt. Vernon, and Mrs. Larry (Dorothy) Jones, Wyoming.

He was preceded in death by his mother and a sister, Joyce.

Funeral services were held at Zion Lutheran church Friday, Sept. 3 at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Harvey Gilbertson officiating. Interment was in the Wayne cemetery. Military services were conducted by the Anamosa Legion Post.

Casket bearers were George Wessels, Gerald Bodeker, Dale Engelbart, Alvin Harms, Everett Engelbart, Larry Herren, Carl Schoon and Garry Rickels.
