William Folkerts, 81, died Monday, June 21, 1971, at the Senior Home in Monticello following a brief illness. Funeral services are set for Thursday, June 24 at 1:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran church, the Rev. Walter A. Behrens officiating. Goettsch funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
He was born September 26, 1889 in Leerhafe, East Osfriesland, Germany, the son of Folker and Marie Engelken Folkerts. He came to the U.S. and settled in Jones county in 1907. He was married to Meta Dirks Husman March 23, 1912. The couple farmed in Cass township, moving to Anamosa in 1922.
Folkerts served as councilman, court bailiff and was a member of Anamosa Lodge 46, Chapter and Commandry.
He is survived by three stepchildren, Henry Husmann, Scotch Grove; Mrs. J. Stanley Waggoner, Anamosa; Mrs. Anna M. Sayer, Des Moines; ten grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, June 5, 1967; a step-son, Edward Husmann; his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
Burial will be in Riverside cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles Tyler, George Hall, Rudolph Soukup, Hugo Dieninger, Eli Shada and Delbert Brickley.
