Edward A. Hasselbrink of Woodbridge died on Monday, May 17, 2010, in Hartwyck at Cedar Brook Care Center in Plainfield, NJ. He was 88 years old.
The funeral will take place at 8:30 a.m. Friday from the Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green St., at Barron Ave., Woodbridge, www.costello-greiner.com. A Funeral Liturgy will follow at 9 a.m. at St. James R.C Church, Woodbridge. Entombment will be in St. James Chapel Mausoleum, Woodbridge. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Born in Grinnell, Iowa, Mr. Hasselbrink resided in Woodbridge since 1955. He was a longtime communicant of St. James Catholic Church in Woodbridge.
Mr. Hasselbrink was a United States Army veteran, serving in World War II.
He was employed as a tool and die maker for Union Carbide in Newark and Piscataway for 26 years, retiring in 1971, and he was a counterman at 1001 Auto Parts in Colonia for many years.
Mr. Hasselbrink was predeceased by his parents, William and Elsie Henning Hasselbrink, two sisters, Virginia Pratt and June Hasselbrink, and two brothers, Donald Hasselbrink and Wayne Hasselbrink.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elsie Kirk Hasselbrink; four sons, Edward Hasselbrink of Marina De Ray, Calif., Kevin Hasselbrink of South Amboy, Dean Hasselbrink of Laurence Harbor, and Glenn Hasselbrink of Woodbridge; a sister, Doris Bryan of Iowa; a brother, Richard Hasselbrink of Iowa; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1701 North Beauregard St., Alexandria, Va 22311.
