ACCIDENT VICTIMTed Johnson, 17, Killed
Early SaturdayMaquoketa, Ia. Oct. 31, - Special: Ted Johnson, 17, a Baldwin high school senior was fatally injured this morning when he was struck by two automobiles on a street at Monmouth, near here.
Johnson stepped into the street in front of an automobile being driven by Floyd King of Andrew, who had just pulled away from the curbing after a dance. King, it is said, applied the brakes and turned sharply to the left in an effort to avoid striking Johnson. In the effort King’s car crashed head-on into another machine driven by Max Morehead, Maquoketa farmer, traveling in the opposite direction.
A coroner’s jury returned a verdict Saturday afternoon declaring the accident unavoidable. Dr. J. W. Jordon coroner, conducted the inquest assisted by County Attorney E. L. Schoenthaler.
Johnson lived about a half an hour after the accident in a physician’s office.
