IVAR O. THOMPSON [sic]
Ivar O. Thompson, son of Thomas and Guro Thompson. was born near Randall, Iowa, Jan. 9, 1875, and passed away at his home in Randall July 14, 1941, at the age of 66 years and 6 months.
Feb. 26, 1896, he was wedded to Julia A. Okland. To this union 13 children were born, of whom three children and an adopted son have preceded him in death. The children who survive and who, with their mother, grieve the passing of a dear husband and father, are Mrs. Myrtle Millang, Mrs. Alma Lenning and Mrs. Viola Jackson, all of Story City; Mrs. Tressie Fatland of Kamrar; Irvin, Spokane, Wash.; Arnie, Sherman, Iver and Raymond, all of Randll, and Margaret of Ames. He also leaves 21 grandchildren; 3 sisters: Mrs. Julia Trooien of Eagle Grove, Mrs. Anna Hall of Clear Lake and Mrs. Belle Egland of Moscow, Idaho.
After their marriage the Thompsons lived for a year where Malachi Johnson used to live. The family then bought a farm 3 miles southwest of Randall, where they lived for 13 years after which they moved to Rose Grove, where they resided for 10 years. The last 21 years Randall has been their home.
With the exception of the 10 years spent at Rose Grove Mr. Thompson has been a member of the Elim church at Randall. Here he was baptized, confirmed and wedded, and from this church he was buried.
Mr. Thompson had for several years suffered from a weak heart. This sickness finally terminated his life. He was a patient sufferer and willing to carry the cross placed on him. Having found peace with God in his earlier years, he remained steadfast to the end and was glad and willing to exchange this struggling world for a better life above.
Funeral services were held July 17 from the home and the Elim church, where Rev. G. O. Paulsrud officiated. A quartet composed of Mrs. P. G. Pederson, Mrs. Clarence Larson, J. H. Brekken and S. M. Teigland sang two songs selected by his family: "In the Sweet, Bye and Bye" and "We are Going Down the Valley." A large audience was present to pay respect to this Randall pioneer. Pallbearers were B. M. Grimsley, B. Anderson, J. Okland, P. Egland, R. Hall and P. O. Trooien. Interment was at the Randall cemetery. A sum on money was given to Missions in Mr. Thompson's memory.
