OBITUARY
LARS A. TJERNAGEL FUNERAL AT RANDALL SATURDAY
Lars A. Tjernagel was born in Sveen Parish, near Haugesund, Norway, September 12, 1865, and passed away at his home east of Randall March 5, 1941, at the age of 76 years and 6 months. He came to America August August 15, 1886. Here he was engaged in farm work for a few years.
In 1894 he returned to Norway, where he remained for six years and where he united in marriage to Elizabeth Hactorson Bua, July 6, 1896. October, 1901, he returned to America with his family and started farming. Thirty-two years ago he bought a farm 2 1/2 mile southeast of Randall, where he lived until his death.
In 1902 he joined the Elim Lutheran church at Randall, where he was an active member until his death.
The last twenty years of his life have been trying years. His wife was sick for a long time, and finally passed away Dec. 20, 1924, leaving him with 14 children, of whom many were too small to care for themselves. A few years ago he himself was taken sick and tied to his home. Toward the last his heart gave in, and breathing became extremely difficult. This last ailment was the immediate cause of his death. What helped him during these years of trials was the fact that he was a Christian father who had learned to carry his burdens to the Lord.
Those who have preceded him in death, besides his wife, are two sons: Ole, who died April 19, 1938, and Gustave, who just passed away two weeks before, Feb. 19, 1941.
He leaves to mourn his departure five boys and seven girls: Haktor of Radcliffe, Lars L. of Story City, Christian of Randall, John and Bendick at home, Barbara Anderson of Hawick, Minn., Elizabeth Braland of Story City, Louise Hall of Randall, Helen Braland of Randall, Helen Braland of Randall, Rose Braland of Story City, Agatha Olson of Spicer, Minn., and Anna hall of Ellsworth. Also two brothers and two sisters: Bendick Anderson of Randall and John O. Tjernagel in Norway, Mrs. Martin Olson of Randall and Agatha Christenson of Story City. Also 38 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted from the home and Elim Lutheran church Saturday, March 8. Rev. G. O. Paulsrud officiated. A quartet consisting of Theo. Hoversten, J. H. Brekken, S. M. Teigland and O. J. Sopeland sang two songs. A total of $49.50 was given in memory of Mr. Tjernagel to different missions. Pallbearers were B. M. Grimsley, Wier Erickson, Lewis Braland, Lars Skeie, Andrew Mickelson and P. K. Egland. Interment was made at Mamrelund cemetery.
