IVER E. NELSON DIED OF PNEUMONIA

Funeral of Well Known Stanhope Man Held Sunday

Iver Edward Nelson, 75, life long resident of Clear Lake township, passed away at his home in Stanhope Wednesday evening, Jan. 22. He became ill on Christmas day and was then taken to the Webster City hospital. He remained there a week and was taken home. He seemed better for a time, but suffered a relapse, and the last week was in a coma most of the time.

Rev. O. C. Monson conducted the funeral services from the home and Our Savior's church Sunday afternoon. A mixed quartet, Truman Quam, Mrs. Bloyd Iverson and Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Fardal sang three selections. A Norwegian solo, "I Den Tanse Midnat Time" was sung by Truman Quam. Floral tributes were given in his memory, as was also money to Missions.

Mr. Nelson leaves his wife, two sons, Neham of Rock Island, Ill., and Irvin of Woodward; two daughters, Mrs. P. A. Hove of Fort Dodge and Mrs. William Johnson of near Stanhope. He also leaves 15 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren and one brother, Louis H. of Long Beach, Cal.

Mr. Nelson was born in Norway Feb. 11, 1865. He came with his parents to the United States and settled with the first Norwegian colony in Clear Lake township in 1869. Out of that group of early settlers there are now five left.

Dec. 17, 1887, he was married to Belle Oppedal, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Torkel Oppedal. They made their home on various farms in the Stanhope community until in 1910, when they moved into Stanhope and he entered the implement business.

In 1918 they moved to Story City and lived here two years; then returned to a farm in Clear Lake township, where they lived until 1929, when they retired and moved into Stanhope.

He was a faithful member of Our Savior's Lutheran church and many friends were present Sunday to pay their last respects to his memory.
