OBITUARY OF MRS. GRIMSLEY
Mrs. B. M. Grimsley, nee Gurina Fatland, was born at Fatland, Sondhordland, Norway, May 13th, 1873, and passed away at the Story City hospital Jan. 19, 1941 at the age of 67 years, 8 months and 5 days.
At the age of 12 years she came with her parents to America. The family settled at Huxley, Iowa, where she was confirmed by Rev. M. F. Wiese.
As a girl she worked as a maid in the neighborhood until she was wedded to B. M. Grimsley March 24, 1894. To this union four children were born.
Her son, Louis, preceded her in death. The children who survive are Miller Grimsley of Roland, Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson of Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. Ina Satre of Story City. She also leaves six grandchildren. The husband, children, grandchildren and a foster son, Bernard Fatland, mourn the passing of a dear wife, mother and grandmother. She is also survived by two brothers and two sisters: Louis Fatland of Des Moines, Chas. Fatland of Seattle, Wash., Mrs. A. K. Johnson of Huxley and Mrs. Frank Sterup of Washington.
Shortly after their marriage the Grimsleys moved to McCallsburg, where they resided a short time, after which they moved to Hamilton county. In 1899 they bought a small farm a mile east of Randall, where they made their home for 39 years. In 1939 they moved to Randall.
Mrs. Grimsley was a Christian woman, a good wife and mother, very active in church work, and a good neighbor. She was highly respected in the church and community. Her home was a "Beth rest and a sincere hospitality. Her passing leaves a very large empty space, hard to fill, but what we have lost she has gained. All we can say now is, that we thank her for what she was for us all, and that we are glad that she had found her well needed rest.
She was buried from her home and her beloved church, Elim of Randall, where her pastor for many years, Rev. G. O. Paulsrud, officiated, Wednesday, Jan. 22. A quartet composed of J. H. Brekken, S. M. Tigland, Mrs. Peterson and Mrs. Clarence Larson sang "Just Beyond the River" and "Going Down the Valley." Pall bearers were Ed Erickson, Chris Teig, P. J. Okland, Severin Tjentland, Andrew Mickelson and B. A. Anderson. Flower tributes were given in her memory, as was also money to Missions. A large audience was present to pay this good woman their last respects. Interment was made at the Randall cemetery.
SUBMITTER'S NOTE: There were misplaced lines in this article I rearranged so it made sense. One line ended "Beth- and did not finish the word on the next line.
