MRS. A. W. EWING DIED AT JEWELL

Mrs. Allen Ewing died last Thursday morning, Nov. 21st, at her home northwest of Jewell, her death resulting from tuberculosis. Mrs. Ewing had been in ill health for many years and for eleven years she had been a patient at the Clarinda state hospital, returning home only about two months ago.

Agnes Edith Martin was a daughter of Ferris and Clara Martin. She was born at Flora, Ill., May 16, 1901, and died at Jewell, Iowa, November 21, 1940, at the age of 39 years, 6 months and 5 days. She lived in southern Illinois where she married the Rev. Earl Gibson in the year 1917. Five children were born to that union, two of whom preceded their mother in death, daughters Mona and Clara. Her husband died in 1926 and on Sept. 16, 1927, she married Allen W. Ewing at Flora, Ill. They later came to Story county, Iowa, living east of Story City, and for the past seven years Mr. Ewing's home has been near Jewell. One son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ewing, Allen James Ewing, who because of his mother's illness has been cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Annas Jacobson of Story City.

Survivors include her husband, their son, Allen James Ewing, and three children by her first marriage, Earl Gibson jr., Jeanette Gibson, and David Gibson; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ferris Martin of Louisville, Ill.; 4 sisters and 3 brothers, Bessie Poursout of Taylorville, Ill.; Mabel Judy and Mildred Kinnaman, of Flora, Ill.; Ruth Janky of Watertown, Wis.; Wm. Martin of Louisville, Ill.; and Harry and Ted Martin, both of Flora, Ill.

Mrs. Ewing was a member of the Methodist church in St. Louis.

The funeral was held Monday, Nov. 25, at the Fleenor funeral home in Jewell; the pastor, Rev. Carl Opsahl, officiating. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery in Jewell. The pall bearers were: Carl Hendrickson, M. O. Throdorson, W. J. Koop, A. J. Henryson, Wier Thorson and Harry Henderson. Two duets were sung at the service by Mrs. Yorke Johnson and Mrs. Gail Stoneking, Mrs. Harry Harman accompanying at the organ. In her memory a gift of $1.50 was made to missions by Mr. and Mrs. Henry Skeie, Mr. and Mrs. Annas Jacobson, and the son, Jimmy Ewing.
