Monday, July 15, 1996Dr. Robert Veach, 69, Webster City, died July 14, 1996 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, with Dr. Jeff Palmer officiating. Private committal services will be held Tuesday morning, with military rites conducted by American Legion Post No. 191. Visitation will be at Foster Funeral Home after 5 p.m. today until 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Robert Lee Veach, son of Charles and Ethel Barker Veach, was born Aug. 31, 1926 in Dubuque. He graduated from high school in Bellevue in 1944. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Seabees in the South Pacific. He attended Iowa State, graduating in 1952, with a doctorate in veterinary medicine. He moved to Webster City and started in practice with Dr. John Morton and Dr. Clifford Mickelson. On Aug. 31, 1952 he married Virginia Blahnik in Cedar Rapids. The couple resided in Webster City. He retired in June of 1991.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Joe Pieper, Peoria, Ill., Lisa Veach and Robert Dahlberg, Des Moines; grandchildren, Emily Pieper, Ben and Greta Dahlberg; mother, Ethel Veach, Dubuque; brother, Thomas Veach, San Antonio, Texas; and sister, Marcia Budde, Dubuque. He was preceded in death by his father; and daughter, Diane Veach in July of 1980.
Dr. Veach was a member of the Webster City Rotary Club, a former member of the school board, a former member of the Webster City Planning and Zoning Commission, member of the Beautification Committee, member of the KIDS Committee of the new middle school, board member of the Webster City Federal Savings Bank and also worked with Iowa State alumni activities.
Memorials may be given to the Congregational Church Memorial Fund, Meals on Wheels and the Kendall Young Library Peoples Project.
