MRS. MARY WARE

Mrs. Mary Ware was born Mary Mortenson at Hedensted, Denmark, May 1, 1858, and at the age of 14 she came to this country with her parents who settled in Hamilton county. On March 13, 1880, she was married to Thomas W. Ware at Oskaloosa and he died in Oskaloosa Nov. 8, 1918. During her husband's lifetime she lived in Oskaloosa, Ottumwa, Sigourney and Webster City and later in Story City, but for the last 17 years she had made her home with her daughter there.

She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mabel Thurber, in Marshalltown, Feb. 15, 1940, at the age of 82 year lacking 10 weeks.

Four of her children, Nora, Myrtle, Ruby and Clark, died in infancy or early childhood. Besides her daughter she is survived by the following brothers and sister: Martin J. Mortenson, Jewell; Mrs. Lewis Paulson, Graettinger; Mrs. Minnie Larson, Emmetsburg; Mrs. P. B. Fredrickson, Winthrop Harbor, Ill., and Peter C. Mortenson of Chicago, Ill. A sister and a brother preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Christian church at Oskaloosa.

Funeral services were held Feb. 17 at the Estel funeral home in Marshalltown with the Rev. George E. Purdy officiating, pastor of the Grace Park Christian church in Des Moines. Burial was in Graceland cemetery at Webster City. Pallbearers were Leonard F. Schlegl, Richard and Irvin Mortenson, Harmon Barkema, Jethro Thurber and Fred Buchholtz. Attending the services from out of the city were Mrs. P. B. Fredrickson, Winthrop Harbor, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Mortenson and daughter Dorothy, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Buchholtz, Mr. and Mrs. Rich Mortenson and Harmon Bearkema and sons Floyd and Lester, all of Jewell; Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Mortenson and sons Marvin and Harold, Radcliffe; Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Schlegel and children, Ellsworth; Mrs. Oriole Temple, Kamrar; Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Thurber, Liscomb, and Miss Tabitha Yelsma, Oakdale.
