OBITUARY OF HELMER J. NIBE

Helmer J. Nibe was the oldest of seven children born to Martin Nibe and his wife, Brita, having been born on a farm about three miles south of Ellsworth on the 1st day of January, 1889. He spent his boyhood in the vicinity of Story City, where he also grew to maturity. His education continued up to the 10th grade in the public schools during which time he endeavored to prepare himself for life's activities and his future usefulness. He had learned to be industrious and to make himself useful in his social and business relations and therefore gave a good account of himself.

After he had grown to manhood and had arrived at that period in life where he was able to establish his own home he was happily married to Miss Christina Peterson at Jewell, on Nov. 15, 1910. After their marriage they lived at Ames for one year and then moved to Newton where they resided for 3 years. Feeling that they should return to the home community they then took up their abode at Jewell where he was engaged in agriculture and also followed the painter's and decorator's trade. After spending 20 years at Jewell the family came to Story City about 4 years ago, where he was engaged in the Story City Shipping Association until the time of his last illness.

To him and his companion were given 4 sons. As husband he was very thoughtful and considerate of his companion and as father of his children he was very kindly disposed, ever seeking their welfare. He loved his family and was eager to provide for their comfort and to give them his best self in service. Having been a man of genial disposition he won for himself many warm friends who will also cherish his memory.

In infancy he was dedicated by his parents, thru the holy rite of baptism, to the Lord and in due time was confirmed by Rev. Paulsrud of Randall in the Lutheran church. In 1915 he united with the Church of Christ at Jewell in which he was a faithful member and wherein he served as deacon and elder for a number of years. He also served as the Sunday School superintendent in that congregation for a number of years. He retained his membership in that church up to the time of his death. He was also a member of the Big Brothers Sunday School class of Grace Evangelical church in Story City after moving here.

[The next paragraph is unreadable and continues to the top of the page where legibility improves.] disturbances which brought great suffering while again being confined to his bed. However, he suffered patiently and was fully resigned to the inevitable, realizing that God, our Heavenly Father, would not forsake him. He had his hope set on Christ, who is abundantly able to save and he passed on to his eternal reward on Sunday morning, December 5, 1937, shortly before 10 o'clock, thus attaining the age of 48 years, 11 months and 5 days.
