(I am omitting the first part of the article pertaining to the other man.)
Egland Old Settler
Jake Egland, [73], who was born and reared near Randall, had been in failing health for many years. He lived with his brother-in-law, H. B. Hanson, and assisted him in operating the harness shop at Randall.
His death occurred early Sunday morning. The body was found by a niece, Mrs. Erma Paggett, who went to his room to call him for breakfast. The revolver shot was not heard in the house because Mr. Hanson is quite deaf.
Jake Egland was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Knut Egland. He was baptized and confirmed in the St. Petri church at Story City. When a young man he went to Minneapolis, where he was employed until 14 years ago, when he came back to Randall. He leaves two sisters, Mrs. Gus Thoreson of Jewell and Mrs. Pete Olson of Elmore, Minn., and two brothers, P. K. Egland of Randall and Carl Egland of Jewell. He had never been married. Funeral service was held at the H. B. Hanson home Wednesday, May 5th, conducted by Rev. Hans Oppedal. Two duets were sung by Mrs. P. G. Pederson and Mrs. Clarence Larson. The pall bearers were Gil Williams, Carl Anderson, Herbert Halleland, M. G. Benson, Chris Matson and Theo. Hoversten. Burial at Mamrelund cemetery.
