OBITUARIES
JOHN SOPELAND
John Sopeland, the son of John and Martha Sopeland was born at Sopeland, Norway, on February 22, 1882, and died at Buffalo Center, Iowa, March 16, 1937 at the age of 55 years.
He came to America in 1906 where he first made his home with his uncle, Iver Hia, four miles northeast of Randall.
He had been working as a farm hand in the vicinity of Randall most of the time, but the last two years he has been working near Thompson, Iowa, where he had made his home with relatives, Mr. and Mrs. Theo. Hovda and Mr. and Mrs. Samson.
Friday, March 12, he was taken sick, a sickness that developed into double pneumonia from which he died the above mentioned date.
Mr. Sopeland was of a quiet and friendly disposition and well liked in the communities where he labored. Some time ago he was converted and had found his peace with God. He has now, we hope, changed the struggles of life for a crown.
He leaves to mourn his departure two sisters in Norway, Mrs. Gustav Sandanger and Mrs. John Skaar; two brothers in this country, Osmond Sopeland of Ellsworth and Ole of Randall, besides many friends and relatives.
The funeral services were held March 19 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ole Sopeland in Randall and in Elim Lutheran church, where Rev. G. O. Paulsrud officiated.
The pall bearers were Severin Chentland, Obert and Arnold Hia, Sidney Hovda, Ben Mortvedt and Harold Hovda. Interment was at Mt. Olive cemetery in Randall, Iowa.
