MRS. LARS JOHNSON
Ellen Bakkevig Johnson, a daughter of Bjorn and Susanna Bjoland, was born in Nerstrand, Norway, Nov. 8, 1843, and died at the Sunset Home at Story City last Wednesday morning, June 10, 1936, at the age of 92 years, 7 months and 2 days.
She came to America in 1875, coming first to Story county, where she lived two years, then to Hamilton county, living on a farm until April 28, 1919, when she went to the Sunset Home.
On February 25, 1877, she was married to Lars Johnson in a church near Randall. Five children were born to this union, two of whom survive, Ben L. Johnson of Stanhope and Lewis M. Johnson of Jewell, also a step-daughter, Mrs. Anna Benson of Clarion. There are also 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren surviving. Mr. Johnson died May 21, 1902.
Mrs. Johnson was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Norway and was confirmed there by the Rev. Dietrichson. At the time of her death she was a member of St. Paul's church north of Rosendale.
She was in feeble health and was patiently waiting for the Master to call her home to her eternal rest. By her passing she leaves a host of friends at the Sunset Home.
The funeral was held at the St. Paul's church on Saturday. Pall bearers were grandsons: Byron Johnson, Leslie Johnson, Roy Johnson, Leonard Johnson, Lewis Benson and Elmer Benson. Music by Mrs. Byron Johnson and Mrs. Thomas Johnson, Miss Sara Anderson, accompanist.
