OBITUARY
H. O. MILLANG
Hermund O. Millang was born in Vik, Sogn, Norway, on August 1, 1848. His parents were Ole and Britha Millang. July 4, 1876 (then 28 years old) he came from Norway to Lee, Ill., Dec. 7, 1876, he was united in marriage to Miss Ingeborg Nelson, also from Vik. Two years later he came to Hamilton county, where he farmed south of Stanhope and southwest of Randall.
In 1882 he moved to his old homestead, which then was a prairie, 4 miles east of Randall. At this homestead he lived until 12 years ago when he moved to Story City to make his home and where he died May 22, 1936, from complications incident to his advanced age, being at the time of his death 87 years, 9 months and 22 days.
Mr. Millang was a kind husband, father, and a very helpful neighbor. In 1887, almost 50 years ago, he became a member of Elim Lutheran church at Randall. In this church he was a faithful member for many years. Since he came to Story City he has been a member of the Bethel Lutheran church.
He leaves to mourn his departure his aged wife and eight children. One daughter, Mrs. Betsy Peterson, preceded him in death. The children who survive him are: Ole of Forest City, Nels of Roland, John of Stanhope, Bertha (Mrs. John Oppedal), Inger (Mrs. William Egemo), Hannah (Mrs. Arthur Carpenter), Peder and Imbert, all of Story City. He also leaves 24 grandchildren and one sister.
The funeral was held from Bethel church, May 25, where his pastor, Rev. G. O. Paulsrud, assisted by Rev. S. O. Heidal of Radcliffe, officiated. A large audience of relatives and friends were present. Interment was made at Mamrelund cemetery, three miles east of Randall. Six of his grandchildren acted as pallbearers.
