OBITUARY OF BEN BORWICK
Bernt Magnus Borwick, son of Peder and Ellen Bjornevik, was born at Finaas, Norway, Aug. 19, 1868, and died at his homestead five miles east of Randall, Nov. 21, 1935, being 67 years old. He was baptized and confirmed in the Moster church.
At the age of 19 years he left the old country and came to Hamilton county, Ia., where for 40 years he had lived on his homestead, 5 miles east of Randall. March 16, 1893, he was united in marriage to Lizzie Wicks. To this union were born 12 children, of which two have preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife and ten children, who are: Mrs. Henry Opstvedt of McCallsburg, Mrs. Lawrence Donhowe and Mrs. Geo. Teigland of Randall, Mrs. Earl Quam of Roland, Porter of Story City, Henry of Radcliffe, Burdella, Orlene, Melbourne and Benjamin at home. He also leaves 14 grandchildren, eight sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Oliver Durby of Minneapolis, Mrs. Peder Durby of Nevada, John Borwick of Story City--the others are in Norway.
Mr. Borwick was a gifted man, a kind husband and father. He had been a member of Elim's Lutheran church at Randall the last 44 years. He had served the church in different capacities being deacon at the time of his death. He loved his church and was always willing and ready to serve it and sacrifice for it. The church will miss him a great deal, but he had joined the triumphant church above.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 24, 1935, at the home at 1:30 o'clock. Rev. G. O. Paulsrud officiated at the home and in the church. A male quartet consisting of Ole Copeland, J. H. Brekken, S. M. Teigland and Theo. Hoversten and two duet were sung by Mrs. P. G. Pederson and Mrs. Clarence Larson. The flowers were many and beautiful. The pall bearers were Porter, Henry and Melbourne Borwick, Lawrence Donhowe, Henry Opstvedt and George Teigland. The services were largely attended, the church and basement were unable to hold the many friends gathered to pay their last respects to this honored friend. He was laid to rest at Mamrelund cemetery.
