MRS. JOHN PETERSON ONE OF OUR PIONEERS

Anna Marie, daughter of Nels and Anna Nelson [sic] was born May 15, 1859, at Overbumark, Denmaark, and passed away at her farm home near Jewell Oct. 30, 1935, at the age of 76 years, 5 months and 15 days.

She lived with her parents in Denmark until the age of 30 years. She with some friends came to America in May, 1889, making her home at Webster City until in the fall, Nov. 29, 1889, she united in marriage to Mr. John Peterson [sic]. Since that time, almost 46 years, she resided at the Peterson farm home near Jewell.

Mrs. Peterson was baptized and confirmed in Denmark and since coming to Jewell held a membership in the Danish Lutheran church there. She was active in the work of her home until about five years ago when she was stricken with arterio-sclerosis, and the advancing years causing her death.

She leaves to mourn her aged husband, five children, one step-daughter, 22 grandchildren, five great grandchildren. The children are Carl G. Peterson of Story City, Peter M., Anton N., Mrs. Russell Bernsmeier and Mrs. Anton Kolling all of Jewell; Mrs. Harry Hanson of Jackson, Minn.; two brothers, Nels Jewell of Story City and Steffen Nelson of Jewell, besides other relatives and friends.

The funeral was held Friday afternoon at 1:30 from the home and 2 o'clock at Bethesda Lutheran church, the pastor, Rev. Carl Opsahl officiating. Miss Irene Olson sang and beautiful song at the home and Mr. Jesse Olson sang two songs at the church. Also Miss Mable Jacobson sang and old favorite song in Norwegian. Rev. Opsahl based his sermon on the verses 28 to 30 of Matthew 11, which meant so much to all who heard him. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. Two gifts were left to the mission in her memory: one $2 gift from the Ladies Mission society and one $15 gift from her husband and children.

Interment was made in the Evergreen cemetery at Jewell.
