Obituary
Mrs. Mary Thomas
Mrs. Mary Thomas, wife of Oscar Thomas, died at her home in Washington township, Feb. 11, 1896. Mrs. Thomas was born in Germany, and came to America with her parents in childhood and was married to Oscar D. Thomas, Dec. 2, 1886. Mrs. Thomas was a devoted member of the Methodist church. Her last days were attended with much suffering, but was born of remarkable Christian patience and firm trust in God. She leaves an affectionate husband, two little daughters, a father, a mother, brothers and sisters to mourn her loss.
We laid her away in sorrow but not as those who have no hope for "believing that Jesus died and rose again even so they, also, which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him." Words of comfort were spoken by the pastor of the M.E. church at Morrison to a large circle of relatives and friends. May the blessed hope comfort and sustain the lonely companion and may the sorrowing children be led to love and serve their mother's Savior, and all at last be brought to share in the glories of the deathless land.
We must not stop to mourn the dead
But rather be re-born instead
And on and on our journey tread
To do the work our Master saidThe one in whom our trust has been
Requests that we shall meet on high
With that request, we will comply
And meet with the redeemed againShe was resigned, resigned to Him
The angels for her spirit came
And who could bid her here remain
When God had called to live with HimMary sleeps, sweet sleep of rest
She's gone to Him that we adore
She mingles with those gone before
We would not call her from the blest.--The Grundy Center Herald (Grundy Center, Iowa), 27 February 1896, pg 4
