Lester Roskammer, 1910-1983
Funeral services for Lester August Roskammer. 73. of Arnolds Park were held Nov. 5, 1983.at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Milford with Father James Fandel officiating. Roskammer died on Nov. 2.1983. at the Dickinson County Hospital in Spirit Lake following a lingering illness. Organist was Theresa Feldhacker. Pallbearers were Bud Brooks. Fritz Wittrock, Bob Bryant. Jake Hinshaw. George Meyer and Wilbur Leitch. Honorary- bearers were the Knights of Columbus Council No. 7284. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery at Milford. The Leyson Funeral Home of Milford was in charge, of the arrangements.
Lester August Roskammer was born to August and Mary (Rieffenberger) Roskammer at rural Cherokee on Feb. 24. 1910. He attended rural schools in O'Brien County. On Aug. 25.1936. he was united in marriage to Cora Schallau at Sacred Heart Church in Sutherland and to this union, one son was born. Jerome Alan Roskammer.
Roskammer farmed 20 years in O'Brien County near Paullina before moving to Arnolds Park in 1950. There he operated a small resort and retired after 24 years. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Milford and was baptized at Immaculate Conception Church in Cherokee. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed fishing, gardening and was a general handyman.
Survivors include his wife, Cora; son, Jerome Roskammer; and daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Roskammer: Grandson. Mike Trebbien; sister, LuVerna Mathern of Sutherland; two nieces and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Lawrence.
