Cora Roskammer

Services For Cora B. Roskammer were held Friday, April 23 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford, Iowa with Rev. James Bruch as Presider. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery in Milford with Turner Funeral Home of Milford in charge of arrangements.

Cora B. Roskammer was born to Henry and Rosa Brecht Schallau on March 18, 1910, at Sutherland, Iowa. She graduated from Calumet High School and from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids with her registered nurse degree. She worked for several years as an RN in private homes.

She married Lester Roskammer on August 25, 1936, at Sutherland, Iowa. They farmed between Paullina and Sutherland until 1949 when they bought a resort in Arnolds Park, called L and C Cottages, which they operated for 17 years. They retired in Arnolds Park and Cora has spent the past one and a half years at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake.

Cora was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rosary Altar Society, Lady of the Lake Circle and Women's Club. She also enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint and collecting pitchers, of which she had 300. Cora died April 20, 1999, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.

Surviving are her son Jerry Roskammer and his wife Mary Jo of Wapheton; sister Bibiana Schallau of Sutherland; grandson Mike Trebbien and wife Jolene of West Lafayette, Indiana and their son Kyle; sister-in-law Laverna Mathern of Rochester, Minnesota; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Preceding Cora in death were her parents, husband, three sisters, and a brother.
