Memorial services were held Thursday, March 7 at the Turner Funeral Home in Spirit Lake for Beulah E. Westbrook, who passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2002 at the Bickford Cottage in Sioux City.
The Rev. James Stiles officiated. Interment will be held at a later date at the Lakeview Cemetery in Spirit Lake.
Westbrook was born to Ira and Mary Shriver Peacock on Aug. 28, 1905 at Churdan, Iowa in Greene County. She graduated from high school in Spirit Lake in 1923. Beulah then attended Estherville Junior College.
She was married to Frank Westbrook of Estherville in Sioux Falls in 1939. The lived in Estherville until moving to Charlotte, Mich. Where they lived for 12 years until Frank’s death in 1955.
Beulah returned to Iowa where she was employed by the Iowa Department of Social Services in Cass County from 1956 to 1960. She then was Welfare Director for Ida County from 1960 to 1965 and for Green County from 1965 until her retirement in 1972, when she moved to Spirit Lake.
Beulah was a member of the United Methodist Church of Spirit Lake. Her favorite pastimes were fishing, bowling, and playing cards. She also enjoyed reading, knitting and sewing.
Survivors include her nephew, Dr. Jon Peacock of Dakota Dunes, Neb. and his wife, Angela and their children: J. R. and Monica.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Frank; infant daughter, Jean Mary in 1941; a brother Chester Peacock in 1970; and a sister-in-law, Marjorie Peacock in 2001.
