I. F. Peacock Dies Early this Morn

Ira F. Peacock, well-known Dickinson County auctioneer, passed away this morning of a heart attack while driving his car with Jake Sipple on their way around West Okoboji to go fishing. County Deputy Coroner Dr. C. E. Rector was called to the Hilliard place at 6 a. m.

Details of funeral arrangements will be announced when completed. His absence from the community will be deeply felt by many. He has been active in his work here for thirty years. He held his last street sale of the fall season on Saturday and worked his regular Tuesday afternoon sale at the Ohison Livestock Sales Barn in Spirit Lake.

Mr. Peacock was feeling his usual self before starting and there was no indication of ill feeling. When he reached a point near the Hilliard place on the black top he merely slumped over the wheel. Mr. Sipple turned off the switch and got the car stopped.

Wm. Waechter who was following in his own car reached the scene in a few minutes but death had been instantaneous and nothing could be done aside from calling assistance.

He leaves his widow, a son Chester Peacock of Spirit Lake and a daughter Mrs. Beulah Westbrook of Charlotte, Michigan.

I. F. PEACOCK LAID TO FINAL REST

Funeral Services were held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Methodist Church for Ira F. Peacock who passed away Thursday morning while driving around West Okoboji to go fishing. Interment in Lakeview Cemetery.

Ira Floyd Peacock was born to William C. and Martha Peacock of Cass county, Iowa on June 29th 1882. Cass, Crawford and Greene Counties served as locations for the Peacock home through the boyhood years of Ira, and the neighborhood schools afforded the basic elements of his education.

In June 3 1904, he was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Shriver, and to this union two children were born, a daughter Beulah and a son Chester.

Death came to Ira F. Peacock on October 27, 1949, but he met it as he met all of life, with vigor, a desire for adventure and without a complaint. He was called quietly and quickly while engaged in the great and soothing pastime of his life.

His wife, Mary, and children: Chester of Spirit Lake and Beulah, Mrs. F. Westbrook of Charlotte, Mich., are the members of the immediate family who survive his passing. He is also survived by brothers Val Peacock of Harris and Alva Peacock of Estherville, Iowa. The three surviving sisters are Mrs. Cloy Shriver of Churdan, and Mrs. Ollie Woods and Mrs. Elsie Biggs, both of Jefferson, Iowa. A brother Wm. And sister Maude preceded him in death. There are also many other relatives and a great host of friends who witness his passing.

The spirit of romance in daily living, together with that of great energy has typified the life of Ira Peacock. Following his marriage, he undertook the business of farming, but circumstances brought the family to Northfield, Minn., in 1918, and the experience of selling brought a new appeal to him, bringing him to Spirit Lake as an auctioneer in 1921.

His work has demonstrated many a time, his sincerity, his honesty, and his great love of his business and his friends. He affiliated fraternally with the Masonic lodge, and spiritually with the Methodist Church. Surely here is a life so lived as to combine the personal spirit and the growing fellowship into one picture of a good man, who has known his Creator in a practical way.

Vincent, Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Shriver, Miss Edith Shriver, Mr. Clyde Shriver and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Barnes all of Churdan, Iowa, Mr. TImos Flemmig, Mrs. Bernie Wessel, Mrs. Mildred Berg of Humboldt, Donald Peacock of Des Moines and Mr. F. E. Westbrook of Charlotte, Michigan.
