death verification

I am trying to verify the death of my Great-great uncle's son Merill Matthews. The time frame would be 1918- 1922.
Merrill was the son of Austin J. Matthews and his wife Lulu Belle (Miller) Matthews. Austin was a Methodist Minister and served in the DesMoines area during that time and their oldest son Merill was said to have died there. Would appreciate any help in this
