Swan Emanuel Cronquist was born March 12, 1844 in Renneslof Congregation, Hallands Lan, Sweden. In the spring of 1869 he with a younger brother emigrated to America and arrived in Moline, Ill April 20th. He met Caroline Josephine Nilson, who became his beloved wife December 24, 1870. In the spring of 1873 he came to Carroll county, Iowa. In 1875 he and his family moved to Ida county where he resided until 1919 when he retired from the farm and came to Odebolt, his residence until his death on August 7th, 1929.

Mr. and Mrs. Cronquist have been blessed with eleven children four of whom have gone on before.
Left to mourn his departure are his beloved wife, and seven children, Mrs. Ida M. Fink of Oakland, California, Mrs. M. V. Smith of Concord, California, Mrs. C. F .Nord of Omaha, Minnie at home, Mrs. H. W. Frahm of Kiron, Mrs. G. K. McCollough of Humboldt, Iowa, and Mrs. E. M. Smith of Ningpo, China, and five sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, twelve grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Mr. Cronquist had attained the ripe age of eighty-five years, five months and twenty-six days. He was a charter member of the Bethel Lutheran church until he moved to Odebolt when he became a member of the Odebolt Lutheran church. Mr. Cronquist was a true Christian who loved his Lord and Savior, his church and his fellowmen. He always showed his true Christian spirit in the church and in all the undertakings of his life. And, now, when he is gone, he will be missed not only by his family but his church and his community for which he always had been a man who tried to build up and as a true pioneer it can be said of him that he is one of the men who made Sac and Ida counties what they are today.
