Miss Jane Elizabeth Crook, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Crook passed peacefully away at her home two and a half miles north and two miles east of Kiron at 1:15 o'clock Friday morning June 29 following a severe illness of a few weeks duration. She was taken sick at the close of the school year which developed into mastoids. She underwent an operation at the Lutheran hospital in Sioux City from which she rallied until complications set in. The very best medical aid was given her, but to no avail. She was removed to her home and tenderly cared for by loving and skilled hands until the end came. She suffered so patiently and towards the end when she realized she must leave her dear ones she yielded up her spirit to her master.

Jane Elizabeth Crook was born August 17, 1918 and had reached the age of 15 years 10 months and 12 days . She was converted in her youth and became baptized and affiliated with the Baptist church of Kiron March 27th 1932. She was an active and a most worthy member and never neglected her contributions for the cause. She was very active in the Sunday School and Young Peoples work of church and could always be relied upon. She was a member of the sophomore class of the Odebolt high school. In all her classes her work was highly commended with the highest honors. She was always obedient and industrious both in the home and at school always conduction herself admirably. She had a beautiful character in her making, kind and gentle and loved by all. Her favorite scripture passage was the 23rd Psalm which she repeated during her illness. Her favorite hymn was "Jesus Pilot Me".

Besides the grief stricken parents she leaves her younger sister Joyce who has been suffering with the same illness and is still confined to her bed. Her aged grandfather , three aunts, two uncles and a large number of other relatives and numbers of friends.

Memorial services were held form the Baptist church in Kiron Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock conducted by the pastor Rev. Gordon Carlson. The church was filled to its capacity with friends who came to pay their last respects to the departed sister. A duet "When I Look At His Face" was beautifully sung by Mr. and Mrs. R. O. Lindskoog and one "Jesus Pilot Me" by the Misses Fern and Adeline Johnson with Mrs. H. M. Lindstrom at the piano. There were many beautiful floral offerings speaking in silence of the highest esteem for Jane. The honorary bearers were John Carlson, Alfred Lillegren, Kermit Johnson, Almer Hard, Enoch Lundblad and Raymond Johnson. The remains were viewed at the Kiron cemetery where interment was made. Peace to her memory.

Relatives from a distance attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Shields of Des Moines (the ladies were aunts of Jane) the Misses Emma Mabel and Minnie Gustafson and Robert Thompson of Sioux City.

The heartfelt sympathy of the entire locality goes out to the grief stricken family and near ones.
