Funeral services for Walter S. Carlson, who died on August 8th, 1968 were held on August 12th, 1968 at the Evangelical Free church at Kiron. Hymns were sung by Mrs. Myrtle Anderson and Mrs. Russell Gustafson. They were accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Richard Gustafson. Rev. Arthur H. Freeburg read the following obituary:
Walter Siegfried Carlson, son of C. G. Carlson and Hannah nee Johnston Carlson was born September 3, 1888 in Otter Creek township, Crawford County.
He was educated in the rural schools of Otter Creek a mile west of Kiron.
He was united in marriage to Sophia Mary Johnston on February 28, 1912 at Ida Grove, Iowa. To this union was born two sons, Marion, who died in infancy, and Willard. He had lived and farmed in two sections west of Kiron all his life. He died August 8, 1968 at the Ida Grove hospital.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Amelia and a brother Bernard, who died as young children, and two other sisters Edith and Selma.
Surviving are his wife Sophia; his son Willared and daughter - -law Faye of Kiron; four grandchildren, Mrs. Sandra Fogerty of Tucson, Arizona, Mrs. Kaye Aldrich of Longmont, Colorado, Gary Carlson and Patsy Carlson of Kiron.
Also surviving are three greatgrandchildren, one sister Mrs Esther Goetsch of Des Moines and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives.
The pallbearers were Kenwook Ang, Wilmar Ang, Dale Goetsch, Dennis Goetsch, Judson Johnston and Richard Johnston. Burial was made in the Kiron cemetery.
