Jules Carstensen, affectionately known as "Dick" was born to Mr. and Mrs. Nick Carstensen, Sr. on 14 March 1914 in Sac County. He went to school in Cook Township School No. 7 of Sac County through the 8th grade and then farmed with his father and locally for others.
Evangeline Linman Carstensen was born to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Linman on 5 June 1916 in Ida County. She attended Blaine Township School No. 7 and completed her high school training in Odebolt. She attended the Denison Normal School and then taught at Blaine Township School No. 8 in Ida County.
Dick and Evangeline were united in marriage at her parents home on June 3, 1942. They farmed in Cook Township until they moved to their present farm in Richland Township. This union was blessed with two children, Linda and Richard. Due to a back disability they retired from active farming and Dick accepted a position with the Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company as an insurance adjuster.
Dick and Evangeline were active members of the Arthur Baptist Church serving in many capacities. Currently, Dick was trustee and Evangeline was the church treasurer, a Sunday school teacher and president of the Family Fellowship. Evangeline was also active in the Women’s Union of the Iowa Baptist Conference. Both Dick and Evangeline were active in many community affairs.
Returning home from a fishing trip to Canada, they went to be with their Lord on Saturday 31 August 1968 as a result of a traffic accident. They are survived by their children, Linda, Mrs. Richard Short of Marion, Iowa and Richard, who just received his honorable discharge from the United States Army serving in Viet Nam and their son-in-law, Richard Short. Dick’s mother, Mrs. Nick Carstensen, Sr. of Odebolt, Iowa; his five brothers, Chris and Nick Jr. of Schaller, and Sidney, Wallace and Leonard, all of Odebolt, Iowa, his sisters, Mrs. Frieda Collins of Des Moines, and Mrs. Elsa Morgan of New Mexico, Evangeline’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Linman of Arthur, Iowa, and her brothers, Burnelle and Marion Linman of Arthur, and a host of other relatives and friends.
