Sorry for forgeting to add the time frame information.
My greatgrandfather, James was born in 1864 in Germany. His father was Herman. I found a Herman Bruhn with a son born in 1864(in Germany) in the 1880 census for Liberty, Scott, Iowa. It also lists a daughter, Minnie, age 5. However, I do not know if this is the correct family. Another confusing clue is an undated early-1900's photo postcard taken in Wheatland, Iowa and signed "Aunt Emma".
I do know that James got married in 1887 in Crawford (County?), Iowa. In his obituary (1953) he had three sisters, all living. Doris (or Dora), Margret, and "Mrs. Julius Muhl of Toronto, Iowa". I jound a Julius Muhl, age 8,(son of John Muhl) in the 1880 census. Also in Liberty, Scott, Iowa. This might be the Julius I am looking for.
So, is the woman I am looking for the "Minnie" born in 1875? Or is "Minnie" the diminutive for Margret? (Or do I have the wrong family altogether). Or was Julius married to an Emma born after the 1880 census? This is where I am stuck.
