My name is Kevin Bean and I live in Amersham, Buckinghamshire, England.
I believe my 3rd Great Grandfather, Singleton SCOTT, moved from Yorkshire, England to Bloomfield, Clinton in 1854 (via New York, Albany, Cheshire, Massachusetts and Chicago). Singleton was born in Hook, Yorkshire in May 1825.
Singleton lived with his wife, Emma CARTER (born 1825/7 Tipperary, Ireland), children Horatio G (born Dec 1856, Iowa), Emily Ann (born Sep 1858, Iowa) and Carter T (born Aug 1860, Iowa). Singletons father Thomas SCOTT (born 1800, Yorkshire) also lived with them when he moved from England in 1878. I believe that Singleton had a brother, John, who may also have moved to England to the US, although I have not yet located him.
I have found the family on the 1860, 1870, 1880 and 1910 Census returns for Bloomfield, Brookfield and De Witt.
Emma died on 4 Aug 1878 and I have found burials at St Patrick's Church in Clinton for Singleton in 1914, Horatio in 1913 and Carter in 1941. There are also several other SCOTTs in St Patrick's although I have not determined any other relationships yet.
I would be delighted to hear of any information that may help my research, or from any other descendants of this family.
I have much information about the family in England (Singleton had a previous family whilst in England).
