Loanne, Thank you for your response. Kate Griffin and her sister Lenore were sent to Maquoketa,Iowa in 1876 from New York City on the "Orphan Train." Kate stayed with a Crane family and then disappeared. Her name then appeared in the Clinton, Iowa 1880 Census in the home of David Hess. Kate is my Great Grandmother. Do you know when David Hess died? Did his children remain in Iowa? I think my Kate liked the Hess family because she stayed in Iowa even though her sister later returned to New York.Thank you.
