The sad tidings comes to us from Clayton this week of the death of V. De Lorimier, an old resident and merchant of Clayton.

He was universally esteemed and his loss is a sad calamity to his large circle of friends.

Being as yet without particulars we wait till next week to give an appropriate notice of this event.

DIED - In Clayton, Aug. 21st, of apoplexy, Verneaul De Lorrimier, in the 66th year of his age.

Mr. Lorrimier was born in Montreal and came to Dubuque in the fall of 1836. In 1852 he removed with his family to Clayton where he has since resided.

A large circle of friends are called to mourn for one who was in all respects, a true, good man. His kind and generous nature rendered him a favorite with all who were associated with him, either socially or in business relation.

He was a friend to the poor, and ever ready to sympathize with suffering or sorrow.

Our hearts are sad as we remember that he has gone from among us forever; that we shall no more see his cheerful face, or listen to his words of kindness. No wonder that the hearts of his wife and children were almost crushed with grief as they watched him during his painful illness, bearing his suffering with so much patience and fortitude. Conscious until the last moment, he was unable to speak to his loved ones, though his countenance expressed grief when he saw them weeping around him.

No wonder they feel that the light and joy of their home has gone out forever - that it will be hard to live uncheered by his loving, prestige and counsel. Only the God in whom he trusted can give comfort to their aching hearts - "He doeth all things well" - and we may hope to meet our loved ones on that peaceful shore, some summer morning, life's bright ocean passed, where friends shall clasp inseparable hands, in calm unsuffering, sinless fellowship, no mark the silent flow of centuries.

Farewell, beloved friend; and when we are called from earth away, may we leave a nameless pure and remembrances as kind as you have left.

Death of an Old Dubuquer
The McGregor TIMES brings an account of the death of Verni De Lorimier, at Clayton, on the 19th of August, aged 65 years. The cause of his death was apoplexy.

The deceased was born in Montreal, Canada, on the 18th of December, 1805. He came from Montreal to Dubuque in 1836, and while here was married to Sarah F., daughter of Gov. Hempstead, of this place.

In 1850 he went to California, and after experiencing two years of hardships well known to all settlers there of an early day, returned, and settled at Clayton, where he has been engaged in the mercantile business ever since.

Mr. De Lorimier was one of those whom the world terms "too honorable for his own good." Certain it is, he was too generous. His noble soul could refuse no one who came to him for favor; and tho', in consequence, his reward was not the miser's wealth, the memory of those deeds will live long after the last friend will have followed him.

During his sickness the whole community showed an interest in ascertaining his condition from day to day that spoke plainly the one hope of all, that his summons was not yet; and many were the expressions of gratification when he began to convalesce, as it was thought, but another stroke of that fatal disease again prostrated him, and he gradually grew worse until the last faint glimmer of the lamp of life went out.
