Rebecca Ingersoll was born in Calhoun County, Ill., Dec. 31, 1843, and passed away at the home of her daughter at LeMars, Jan. 1, 1928, at the age of 84 years.
She grew to womanhood in Illinois and was married to D. W. Christy to which union were born three daughters and two sons, all of whom survive. They are Mrs. Frank Freeman of Bellingham, Wash.; Mrs. Seth Loft of LeMars; Mrs. W. W. White of Moore, Mont; S. S. Christy of Freeport, Ill.; and J. S. Christy of Sioux City. She also leaves one brother and one sister, Elias Ingersoll and Mrs. Harriet Dunlap, both of Meriden.
Mr. and Mrs. Christy, with their family, came to Meriden in 1881, where they lived until about six or seven years ago when the children all having one by one left them to be in homes of their own, and both of them being in declining health, they went to live at LeMars with their daughter, Mrs. Loft, where Mr. Christy preceded her in death in June of 1923. Mrs. Christy was a kindly and helpful neighbor, a generous hearted woman, who always found the time to lend a helping hand to those in need. Besides her sons and daughters, she leaves to mourn her death, 11 grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; her sister and brother and many friends who will cherish her memory.
