Gentry, Arkansas, Nov. 1. – Editor Cherokee Democrat, Cherokee, Iowa: Dear Sir – My father, Leon H. Moore, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 4:30 p.m. of typhoid pneumonia. He was only sick a few days. He was 63 years old Feb. 22, 1907, and he was formerly a resident of Cherokee. I thought you might wish to know.We take him to Dixon, Ill., tonight, arriving there Sunday morning. Very truly, Leo A. Moore
Thirty years ago, Mr. Moore was a prominent citizen of Cherokee. He served four years as sheriff of the county, being first elected in the fall of 1877 and again in 1879. Soon after retiring from office, he moved to Pipestone, Minn., where he lived a number of years. Some eight or nine years ago he moved to Gentry and engaged in banking and real estate business.
Most everybody who lived in this vicinity thirty years ago knew Leon Moore and many will regret to learn of his death. His last visit here was about the time he moved to Gentry. Leo Moore visited here last spring. (Source: The Semi-Weekly Democrat, Cherokee, IA, Mon., Nov. 4, 1907, pg. 1)
