Mabel S. Magnussen, 91, of Cherokee, and formerly of Larrabee, Iowa passed away Thursday, March 19 in the Cherokee Villa following a long illness.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 23 from the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Burial will be in the Cedar Cemetery at Larrabee, Iowa.

She was born on April 26, 1906, in Ida County, Iowa to Hans and Julia (Redline) Marth. Her parents farmed in Ida County. She attended Country School through the eighth grade. She moved to Schleswig, Iowa with her parents at the age of fourteen. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was married to John N. Magnussen on December 4, 1923, at Denison, Iowa. She and her husband farmed in Cedar Township near Larrabee until they retired in 1965 and moved to Larrabee. Her husband passed away on November 29, 1970. She moved into the Cherokee Villa on February 6, 1980. Mabel was a very active resident at the Villa, participating in all the activities. She had served as Resident Council President for many years. She was a member of the Larrabee United Methodist Church. Mabel thoroughly enjoyed her family, friends, and life itself.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons Milroy and John Magnussen Jr., one grandson Randy Pearson, a daughter-in-law Colleen Magnussen five sisters and three brothers.

She is survived by two daughters and one son: Donna Bach and her husband Marvin of Storm Lake, Iowa; Emma Jean Pearson and her husband Edgar of Everly, Iowa; Donald Magnussen and his wife Ila of Paullina, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, LaVerne Magnussen of Cherokee, Iowa; 15 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and one sister: Edna Janssen of Ida Grove, Iowa; also two sisters-in-law: Irma Magnussen of Primghar, Iowa, Marie Magnussen of Chicago, Illinois; and one brother-in-law: Clarence Magnussen and his wife Maxine of Alta, Iowa.
