Pearl Swanson Johannsen, 87, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Monday, August 3, 1998, in the Marian Health Center in Sioux City, Iowa, following a three-week illness.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 6, at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Pastor Richard Arndt will officiate with graveside services and burial at the Odebolt Cemetery at Odebolt, Iowa.

Mrs. Johannsen was born on January 18, 1911, at Arthur, Iowa to Enard and Elizabeth (Olson) Gustafson. She attended Alta School and Brooke High School. On April 20, 1935, she married Ernest Swanson at Sioux City, Iowa. He passed away March 22, 1962. She married Peter A. Johannsen on March 3, 1965, in Cherokee. He passed away November 10, 1981. She had worked for Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee for a few years. She had lived in Cherokee for the past 35 years, and prior to this had lived on farms near Ida Grove, Iowa and Arthur. She was affiliated with the Lutheran Church.

Survivors include two sons: Darrell Swanson and his wife, Delores, Spirit Lake, Iowa; and Jim Swanson and his wife, Dianne, Omaha, Nebraska; six grandchildren: Bryan and Amanda Swanson, Omaha; Linda and James Cline, LeMars, Iowa; Susan and Cory Coulander, Perry, Iowa; Tera, Scott, and Ryan Swanson, Omaha; five great-grandchildren: Jessica, Kyle, Eric, Caleb and Jonathan; and a brother, Elmer Gustafson, Odebolt.
