Funeral services for Howard Swails, 87, West Branch, were held June 27, 1989 at the West Branch United Methodist church, with the Rev. Sang K. Ro officiating. Burial was in the West Branch cemetery.

Mr. Swails died June 24 at the Crestview Care center following an extended illness.

The son of Arthur and Agnes Boyd Swails, he was born Aug. 8, 1902 in Louisa county. He married Albertus Gaylor Feb. 26, 1935 in Muscatine. He was a member of the West Branch United Methodist church.

Mr. Swails had been employed in the trucking business and later by the Finkbine Golf course in Iowa City as a greenskeeper. He was also employed by the Greenview Golf course in West Branch.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Larry (Kathleen) Fountain, Iowa City; a son, Richard Swails, Solon; 2 brothers, Roy, East Moline, Ill. and Jim, Slidell, La.; 2 sisters, Mrs. Winifred Gaylor, Phoenix, Ariz. and Mrs. Francis Laird, Davenport; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother.
