Funeral services for Loren M. Jeffries, 66, were held at the West Branch United Methodist church April 27, 1989 with the Rev. Sang K. Ro officiating. Burial, with military honors, was in the West Branch cemetery. Pallbearers were Bruce, Dale and Craig Jeffries, Bruce Johnson, Rick Hanna and Bill Nissen. Mrs. Leanna Thomas was organist. A memorial fund has been established.

Mr. Jeffries died at University hospitals, Iowa City, April 24 after suffering a heart attack at his home in West Branch.

The son of Samuel and Marie Marks Jeffries, he was born in Cedar county Sept. 26, 1922.

He was salutatorian of the West Branch high school class of 1940 and attended the University of Iowa. He enlisted in the US Army Air Force Feb. 5, 1943 and was a crytographic technician with an air force signal battalion. He served overseas from April 30, 1945 to Feb 11, 1946 and was discharged Feb. 17, 1946.

He was then employed by Iowa Electric Light and Power Co., Cedar Rapids. In 1954 he returned to West Branch to join with his father and brother in operation of the Jeffries Deep Rock Service station in West Branch.

He was a member of the West Branch United Methodist church, a member and past commander of the Chauncy Butler post of the American Legion in West Branch, Chamber of Commerce and the Iowa Oil Jobbers association.

He is survived by Jan Cochran, West Branch; 4 daughters, Mrs. William (Billie) Nissen, Blue Grass; Dr. Lydia Jeffries, Durham, N.C.; Mrs. Lori Jeffries-Hanna, West Branch and Gretchen Humeston, Cedar Rapids; a stepdaughter, Sandra Lanoue, Iowa City; 2 stepsons, Keith Cochran, Lone Tree and Craig Cochran, Vero Beach, Fla.; 9 grandchildren and a brother, Kenneth, West Branch.
