Final rites for Mrs. Elmer (Verna M.) McQuillen, 83, were held at First United Church of Christ April 10 with the Rev. Donald Gardella officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery. Pallbearers were Dick Wiese, Lewis McQuillen, LaVerne and LeRoy Jepson, Mark Hurt and Francis Eggert. Joyce Eilers was organist.

Mrs. McQuillen died at Mercy hospital, Iowa City, April 7.

The daughter of Louis and Mary Sohsen Pahl, she was born at Blue Grass Oct. 27, 1905. She attended the rural schools of Scott and Cedar county.

She was married to Elmer L. McQuillen at Martelle April 25, 1924. A resident of the Bennett area nearly all of her life, she had been employed as a cook at the Bennett school and at Red Jacket, Davenport.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Esther Clemens, Muscatine and Mrs. Norris (Jane) Gronert, Marion; 2 sons, Wayne and Lyle, Bennett; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs. Elsie Wiese, Rowley and Mrs. Lillian Schroeder, Dundee.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, 2 sisters and a brother.
