Funeral services for Hilbert L. Whitmer, 66, were held at the South Bethel church Nov. 22 with the Rev. Warren Webb and the Rev. Bruce Williams officiating. Burial was in the South Bethel cemetery. Pallbearers were Kenneth, Wayne and Glen Nebergall, Bob Kretschmar, Merle Waltz and Keith Chapman.

Mr. Whitmer died at his home south of Tipton Nov. 19. His death was caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Cedar county coroner's office.

The son of Howard and Lillian Shadle Whitmer, he was born in Cedar county Oct. 23, 1920. He was married to Dorothy Kaufmann at Wilton April 12, 1947. He farmed in the South Bethel area all of his life. He was a member of the South Bethel church and the Cedar County Farm Bureau.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Bill (Janice) Fay, Tipton; 2 grandchildren, a great-grandson; 5 brothers, Moses, Wilton; Herbert and Harold, Tipton; James, Land O-Lakes, Fla. and Donald, Walcott and 2 sisters, Mrs. Freeman (Ruby) Kaufmann, Wilton and Mrs. Marvin (Dorothy) Beaver, West Liberty.
