Funeral services for James R. Gardner, 49, will be held at the United Methodist church at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29 with Dr. Jerrold Swinton and the Rev. Ed Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Pallbearers are Larry Martens, Gene Morrow, Ron Rife, Bill Leighty, Calvin Moore and Cam Dragoo. Diane Moon is vocalist and Patty Neihaus is organist.

Mr. Gardner died at his home in Tipton Oct. 26. Death was due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He had been in ill health.

The son of Paul and Edith Walker Gardner, he was born at Davenport Sept. 11, 1937. He graduated from Tipton high school in 1956. He was married to Lois Jean Feldman in Tipton Dec. 27, 1969. He had lived in the Tipton community for 37 years.

Mr. Gardner operated an alignment, brake and locksmith shop in Davenport.

He is survived by his wife; 2 daughters, Tami, at home and Lisa, Phoenix, Ariz.; 2 sons, Jamie, at home and Kurt, Iowa City; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gardner, Tipton; 2 sisters, Mrs. Jeanne Jehring and Mrs. Edith Mickelwright, Phoenix, Ariz. and 2 brothers, Paul and Robert, Davenport.
