Funeral services for Louis Unruh, 90, Mechanicsville, were held June 23 at the United Methodist church in Mechanicsville, with the Rev. Jaymee Glenn Burns officiating. The organist was Frances Robinson and the soloist was Inis Hoffman. Pallbearers were Joe Unruh, Gary Unruh, Craig Unruh, Michael Unruh, Scott Unruh and Larry Sell. Burial was in the Elmwood cemetery in DeWitt.
Mr. Unruh died June 20 at the Mechanicsville Care Center following a lengthy illness.
The son of Fred and Christa Hanson Unruh, he was born Aug. 20, 1895 in Wilton. He spent his youth in the Wilton and DeWitt areas. He married Bertha Hudson June 3, 1916 in DeWitt and they resided in the Mechanicsville area. He retired from farming in 1972 and he and his wife moved into Mechanicsville.
He is survived by 5 daughters, Maxine Kniffen, Delores Truhlar and Lorraine Unruh, all of Cedar Rapids; Naomi Sell, Olin and Joyce Miller, Mechanicsville; 6 sons, Lawrence, Glen, Fay and Clair, all of Cedar Rapids; Ray, Tipton and Henry, Lisbon; 2 brothers, Theodore, Austin, Minn. and Fritz, Charlotte; 36 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his wife; 3 sisters, 2 brothers and 2 sons.
