Funeral services for James Robert Ross, 53, Mechanicsville, were held June 21 at the Methodist church in Mechanicsville, with the Rev. Jaymee Glenn Burns officiating. Mrs. Wayne Brown was the organist and pallbearers were Ed Fisher, Paul Thimmes, Lafe Hudachek, Marion Jamison, Claire Stabenow and David Stoneking. Honorary bearers were Ralph Yule, Ken Kadlec, Elmer Border and Everett Ferguson. Masonic rites were provided by Patmos Lodge No. 155 AF&AM and military rites were by Busch-Dennis Post No. 309. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.
Mr. Ross died June 18 at Mercy hospital in Cedar Rapids following a long illness.
The son of George and Neva Vanderbilt Ross, he was born May 30, 1923 in Jones county. He graduated from the Mechanicsville schools in 1940 and enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1942 during World War II serving in the Construction Engineer Division in Europe until January, 1946.
He married Arlene Platner June 14, 1943 and they farmed in the Mechanicsville area until his death.
Mr. Ross was a member of Busch-Dennis Post 309, Patmos Lodge No. 155 AF&AM, the Evangeline Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Mechanicsville Lions club. He was a past commander of the Busch-Dennis post, a past patron of the Eastern Star Chapter and a past master of the Patmos Lodge.
He is survived by his wife; 2 daughters, Mrs. Terry (Kaylene) Worby, Mechanicsville and Mrs. Randy (JoAnn) Garrier, Garden City, Kan.; 2 sisters, Mrs. Max (Ruth Ann) Fiala, Troy Mills and Mrs. Lloyd (Nancy) Phillips, Oskaloosa and a grandson.
