WILLIAMM N. KELLY

WILLIAMM N. KELLY, Son of Thomas and Jane Kelly, was born in Putman County, Indiana. He was baptized in infancy and departed this life May 12, 1927, at the home of his daughter Jennie Goodger, at Harlem Kansas. He was being at the time of his death 80 years 8 months and 2 days old.

When as child he came with his parents to Mineral Ridge, Boone County, Iowa, here he grew to man hood. He unlisted in to the 9th Iowa Cavalry and served in the last year of the Civil War.

1869 in Boone County, Iowa William N. Kelley was united in marriage to Rachel Wakefield. To this union two children were born Clara and Jennie. Clara died in infancy. His 28-year-old wife Rachel Wakefield died in March of 1876.

1877 in Boone County, Iowa William was united in marriage to Mrs. Elma Tanner. Mark Wakefield “Mrs. Elma Tanner is Rachel Wakefield’s sister. Eliza Tanner had died earlier.” To this union of Elma and William 4 children are born Zack “Chandler,” Iva, Wade, “William Wade,” and Grace.

Mark Wakefield; “Elma raised all 5 of William’s children, Jennie was Rachel Wakefield’s daughter. 1880 in Iowa Elma “Alma” is living in the house hold of her Brother William Wakefield she is raising two boys Edward “Elsworth Tanner oldest and the youngest Chandler Kelley.” The genealogie of the Wakefield’s is found in the 1856 State Census of Princeton, Scott County, Iowa see Samuel and Susanna Wakefield’s family.

William leaves to morn in his passing 4 children, 4 brothers, relatives, and many friends.

The funeral services were conducted at the Hanson cemetery north of Stuttgart this Sunday afternoon May 8, 1927. Rev. Chas. D. Norman, of the Methodist church in Phillipsburg was presiding in ceremonies.
