Last Saturday afternoon the down passenger train ran over and instantly killed Franz Weymiller, on the trestle work in the Iowa bottom, about a mile and a half this side of New Albin.

From what we can learn, Weymiller had been in New Albin during the day and had drank so much that he was considerably intoxicated when he left town. He started down the track to walk home to his farm about four miles from town and reached the trestle work about the time the train was due there. Two little girls met him at the end of the bridge and seeing that he was intoxicated, they tried to persuade him not to go onto the bridge for the train was coming. He paid no attention to them, however, and went on.

The train came thundering along and as there is a sharp curve near the end of the bridge the engineer did not see the man at the time, but when he did he reversed his engine, applied the air breaks and stopped the train so suddenly that some of the passengers were thrown from their seats, but not withstanding this promptness the engine struck Weymiller and the locomotive passed over him, severing his left leg completely from his body at the thigh, cutting off the left arm below the elbow and breaking the right let two or three times and mangling it terribly.

The mangled remains were gathered up and brought on the train to this city where an inquest was held and the evidence elicited before the coroner's jury was such that they rendered a verdict in accordance with the facts, attaching no blame to the engineer, Mr. John Jacquette,

The remains were taken charge of by Mr. Henry Hostert, of this city, who is a relative of the deceased, and they were taken to New Albin for interment last Sunday.
