Thompson School No. 1

Riley Township

Ringgold County Rural School Notes
From the Mount Ayr Record News, March 13, 1930

Wanda M. DICKEY, teacher

(Written by Clella BOHN, John BARNES, Wanita NEWBERRY and Alta Mae GILLILAND)

Our school has had many improvements during the last three months. We used the money received from a box supper, which was held in October.

The director bought a new Martha Washington circulator stove, which we have enjoyed very much.

The school house looks very different inside with the new curtains and cream colored window shades.

We have a new giant automatic pencil sharpener, also a new table. The table we use for reading and hot lunches. The oil cloth is bright flowered and very beautiful.

We decorated our room for St. Valentines’s day by putting Valentines on the windows, also on the bulletin board. February 14 found the Valentine box full of Valentines. After the last recess we played games and passed out the Valentines. Our party refreshment consisted of ice cream and cake.

The fifth grade are making safety posters while the sixth and seventh have been making health posters.

Safety slogans by a sixth grader:
Jack and Jill
Went up the hill to get a pail of water;
Jack fell down and broke his crown,
Because he didn’t look at a safety sign.
