Monroe Center School No. 5

Monroe Township

Ringgold County Rural School Notes
From the Mount Ayr Record News, November 19, 1931

Helen CLARK, teacher

We had a Christmas program the 24th of December in the afternoon. We had a nice crowd for the way the roads were. We had two plays. They were, first, “Christmas in Other Lands.” The chief characters in it were Doris BEAR, Junior HARRIS and Vera DUFFIELD. The second play was “A Visit from Santa Claus.” It was a school play. We were all in it. Billy DUFFIELD was the teacher and Albert HARRIS Santa Claus. We drew names at Christmas and Santa gave the presents out that afternoon.

We sold Christmas seals and bough a pencil sharpener. Eugene BEAR sold the most. He received first prize, the others were given red pins. We chose sides and sold Christmas seals. The losing side served the others with popcorn and candy.

Jack BEARDSLEY entered school after Christmas vacation.

We are glad six weeks’ tests are over. Snow was on the ground and we have all been enjoying sleigh riding.

This six weeks’ news were written by the sixth grade.
