Diagonal celebrating Homecoming
King and queen candidates for the Diagonal homecoming celebration this week include, from left:
Jason Wortman, Melissa Amick, Philp Ward, Lauren Sobotka, Gina Gunsolley and Robbie Mason.
It's homecoming week in Diagonal leading up to the ball game and dance set for Friday night. Festivities began this with with
dress up days. Monday was 70's day, Tuesday was dress up day, Wednesday was hillbilly day and today (Thursday)
students are dressing up as movie characters. Friday will be spirit day at the school. Pep rally tonight
A homecoming pep rally will be held tonight (Thursday) at 6 p.m. at the south gymnasium. The pep rally will last about
one hour and students from all levels will be helping with the event. Events Friday begin at 5 p.m.
Activity Friday night will begin with a chili supper at the gymnasium beginning at 5 p.m. The boys and girls games
with Russell will begin at 6:15 p.m. followed by coronation of homecoming royalty. Seniors in the homecoming court
include queen candidates: senior Gina GUNSOLLEY, daughter of Frank and Joan GUNSOLLEY of Diagonal; senior Robbie MASON,
son of Phil and Shelley MASON of Diagonal; senior Phillip WARD, son of Chris SHARP of Diagonal; junior Melissa AMICK,
daughter of Todd and Audria BRIGGS of Diagonal; junior Lauren SOBOTKA, daughter of Mike and Tammy THOMAS of Clearfield;
junior Jason WORTMAN, son of Roger and Carol WORTMAN of Shannon City.
Freshman and sophomore attendants in the homecoming court for the Diagonal homecoming celebration include, from
left: freshman Jeff STARLIN, son of Monte and Nikki STARLIN of Diagonal;
freshman Amanda CREIGHTON, daughter of Kelley and Dean MALONE of Diagonal;
sophomore Niki GOODALE, daughter of Dan and Kristy GOODALE of Diagonal; and
junior Nolan NEWTON, son of James and Patty NEWTON of Diagonal. They will take
part in the coronation activities which following the boys and girls basketball games with Russell Friday night.
Dance follows coronationFollowing the crowning of the homecoming royalty, there will be a
dance in the north gymnasium, which will conclude at midnight. The DJ for the dance is Def Jam and admission to
the dance is $3.

Gunsolley, Mason Diagonal royalty
Gina GUNSOLLEY was crowned queen and Robbie MASON was crowned king at the Diagonal Community high school homecoming Friday
night. The crowning ceremony and dance capped the week of activities at the school for the annual homecoming celebration.
GUNSOLLEY is the daughter of Frank and Joan GUNSOLLEY of Diagonal while MASON is the son of Phil and Shelly MASON of Diagonal.
Both are seniors. Festivities began early this week with dress up days. Monday was 70s day, Tuesday was dress up day,
Wednesday was hillbilly day, Thursday was dress up as a movie character day, and Friday was spirit day at the school, with
students wearing school colors. A homecoming pep rally was held Thursday and a chili supper Friday night in preparation for
the games. The girls won their game 49-13 while the boys lost a heartbreaker 49-48. Helping with the ceremony were Stormie
BUCHANAN and Ty TAYLOR. Other seniors in the homecoming court was Philip WARD, son of Chris SHARP of Diagonal. Juniors
in the homecoming court included queen candidates Melissa AMICK, daughter of Todd and Audria BRIGGS of Diagonal, and
Lauren SOBOTKA, daugher of Mike and Tammy THOMAS of Clearfield. Junior king candidate is Jason WORTMAN, son of Roger and
Carol WORTMAN of Shannon City. Sophomore attendants included Niki GOODALE, daughter of Dan and Kristy GOODALE of
Diagonal, and Nolan NEWTON, son of James and Patty NEWTON of Diagonal. Freshman attendants were Amanda CREIGHTON,
daughter of Kelley and Dean MALONE of Diagonal and Jeff STARLIN, son of Monte and Nikki STARLIN of Diagonal. Following
the crowning of the homecoming royalty, there was a dance to conclude the week.
