Diagonal boys claim homecoming win Maroon girls seeking first win
The Diagonal Maroons picked up a Homecoming win over the Moravia Mohawks by a 68-30 score. The Maroons were never
headed in the game, breaking out to a 23-4 first-quarter lead and never looked back. They stretched the lead to 22 by
half at 37-15, then held Moravia to three points in the third period to maintain a 56-18 lead. The Maroons set a
respectable 47 percent from the field, including 21 percent from the three-point arc and 67 percent from the line.
The Maroons were led by Blake BUTLER as he had a double-double, hitting a season-high 24 points, shooting 61 percent from
the field and adding 12 rebounds, three assists and four steals in a good all-around game. He was followed by Jacob
TAYLOR with 17 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals. Gerad NAILL had six points, five rebounds, one assist
and two steals. Colter PICKERING had five points and five rebounds. Kenny WEASELHEAD had four points and four rebounds, and
Levi JARRED have five points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals while Leigh DAVIS had three points. Returning to
action after an extended illness was Ryan PARROTT. In brief action he added four points and four rebounds. The
Maroons moved their record to 3-2 overall, 1-1 in the conference. Moravia 48, Diagonal 39Homecoming
was not extra special for the Diagonal Maroonettes as they fell to the Morvaia Mohawks 48-30 in a game that was much closer
than the final score indicated. The game was even at eight after the first quarter, but Moravia was able to score several
inside baskets to take a 19-13 lead at the half. The third quarter was basically a draw as Moravia still led 31-23. Twice
the Maroonettes were able to cut into the lead, at one time trailing by only one point in the fourth quarter before Moravia
was able to pull away for the win. Coach KNOX praised the defensive job by Kaitlyn KLOMMHAUS as she held Moravia's leading
scorer to only seven points. "We needed a better performance defensively as a team," she said. The Maroonettes shot well
from the field, hitting on 15-of-34 shots for 44 percent. Cassidy BECKER again led the team with her third double-double
of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while shooting 50 percent from the field. Kaitlyn KLOMMHAUS had nine points,
five rebounds and three steals. Kasydi KLOMMHAUS tossed in six points, and Allison NORRIS added five points and five rebounds.
Jaci HAIDSIAK knocked down three points and had four steals.
