The Ringgold County Chapter of the American Cancer Society entertained with its annual appreciation tea Tuesday of last
week in the library social rooms with a large number of persons in attendance. Reports of the year's work were given,
which included the announcement that for the third consecutive year, Ringgold county was the first chapter in the state to
reach its quota of $2,200. Mrs. Alta JEANES of Clinton township was given recognition for having raised the most money over
the 1960 figures.
Kellerton's new post office building will be dedicated with appropriate services Saturday afternoon, Dec. 2.
Guests will include Congressman John KYL; F. S. ANDREW, senior field service office, post office department, and
postmaster and postal employees from the surrounding area.
Shirley GOINS of Diagonal has been awarded a $40 scholarship as a national 4-H
club leadership winner. Miss GOINS, 19-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd GOINS of Diagonal, was one of 12 leadership
scholarship winners at the National 4-H Club Congress in Chicago, IL. Her scholarship wa spresented by the Sears-Roebuck
Foundation of Chicago, as was her trip to the club congress as a state leadership winners.
The grand opening of Kellerton's new Norge coin-operated laundry will be held Saturday.
For the second time in less than a week, the Mount Ayr Implement
Company was entered and a small amount of currency was taken from the cash register. The first burglary was committed
November 19 and the other either early Thanksgiving morning or night. Entrance was gained in the same manner, by prying
open the back door, and in both instances approximately $17 in cash was taken.
The Taylor county 4-H livestock judging team
won second in the national contest held last week in Chicago, IL in conjunction with the International Livestock Exposition.
As winner of first place in the 1961 Iowa State Fair livestock judging contest, the team represented Iowa in competition
with teams from 29 other states. Members of the team are Tom HENDERSON of Lenox, Roger BRUMMETT and John WALSTON of Bedford
and Richard SHULER of Brooks. Milt HENDERSON, area extension 4-H leader, accompanied the team to Chicago and served on the
committee which conducted the national contest.
